Trilogy Metals Provides Update on Proposed U.S. Department of War Investment

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has provided an update on its previously announced proposed strategic equity investment of approximately US$35.6 million by the U.S. Department of War (DOW) to support exploration and development of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects in northwestern Alaska. The company confirmed that discussions with the DOW remain ongoing and that the letter of intent signed in October 2025 is still in effect as both parties continue to advance negotiations.

The proposed investment is intended to fund continued exploration and development activities at the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects, which are part of the Ambler Mining District, one of the richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts in the world. The district hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. Trilogy Metals holds a 50 percent interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns a 100 percent interest in the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects.

This investment from the U.S. Department of War underscores the strategic importance of domestic mineral production, particularly for metals critical to national security and modern technologies. The Ambler Mining District is seen as a key potential source of copper, which is essential for electrical infrastructure, renewable energy systems, and defense applications. The DOW's involvement highlights the U.S. government's interest in securing a reliable supply of critical minerals from domestic sources, reducing reliance on foreign imports.

For the mining industry, this development signals growing government support for strategic mineral projects, potentially paving the way for similar investments in other critical mineral ventures. It also reflects a broader trend of government participation in resource development to meet national security and economic goals. The ongoing discussions suggest that the DOW recognizes the potential of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects to contribute to the U.S. mineral supply chain.

Located within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares, the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects include the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit. Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, which provides a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities. This partnership emphasizes responsible development that respects subsistence livelihoods.

The proposed investment is a significant step for Trilogy Metals, as it would provide substantial funding to advance its projects. The company's vision is to develop the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer, and this investment could help accelerate that goal. While the deal is not yet finalized, the ongoing discussions and the extension of the letter of intent indicate a positive trajectory.

Investors and industry observers will be watching for further updates on this potential investment, which could have far-reaching implications for the U.S. critical minerals sector. The outcome of these negotiations may also influence future government-private sector collaborations in mining.
