Greenland Mines (NASDAQ: GRML) has announced the start of its 2026 drilling campaign at the Skaergaard gold, palladium, and platinum project in southeast Greenland. The mobilization of equipment and infrastructure ashore followed the arrival of the company's support vessel, Argus, and the setup of diamond drill rigs supplied and operated by Nordisk Fundering, including two new heli-portable units. These rigs have been assembled and are now operational, with the first holes expected to be completed within days. Additionally, initial LiDAR drone surveys have been completed, and approximately one-third of the planned drill locations have been identified and marked. The Sodalen airstrip has also been confirmed operational, ensuring logistical support for the program.
The 2026 field program is designed to support further upgrading of the Skaergaard Mineral Resource, advance metallurgical and engineering studies through bulk sampling, and generate environmental, geotechnical, and infrastructure data needed to move the project toward an Initial Assessment and its next phase of development. The company stated that its team is positioned to execute the program over the coming two months, with Argus on site, equipment ashore, and drilling already underway.
This development marks a significant step for Greenland Mines as it progresses the Skaergaard project, which is a key asset in its mining division. The project is part of the company's broader strategy to build a multi-asset platform with exposure to rare earth magnet materials, precious metals, and selected midstream processing opportunities. The company is also advancing its North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor vision, which aims to link Greenland resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure.
The Skaergaard project is one of two key mining assets for Greenland Mines, with the other being the Sarfartoq neodymium-praseodymium (Nd-Pr) rare earths project in southwest Greenland, subject to closing of a previously announced transaction. The company's biotech division, including Klotho's KLTO-202 primary indication for ALS, is also part of its portfolio.
The commencement of drilling is a critical milestone for the project, as the data gathered will be instrumental in defining the resource and supporting feasibility studies. For the mining industry, this represents continued investment in Greenland's mineral potential, particularly in precious metals and critical minerals. The successful execution of this program could enhance Greenland's position as a supplier of strategic minerals, which is of growing importance given global supply chain diversification efforts.
