Andina Copper Corporation (TSX-V: ANDC | FSE: FIR | OTCQB: PMMCF) has announced additional outstanding drill results from its Cobrasco Porphyry Copper-Moly Discovery in Choco, Colombia. The company is in the early stages of a systematic, wide-spaced scout drilling program aimed at delineating the lateral extent and limits of this new discovery.
Hole CDH010, drilled from the same pad as previous holes, intersected a strongly mineralized interval from 36m to 540m downhole, with moderate to lower grade mineralization continuing to approximately 820m. The hole was terminated at 844.65m. Highlights include 504m @ 0.48% Cu and 37ppm Mo from 36m, including 264m @ 0.63% Cu and 35ppm Mo, and 84m @ 0.40% Cu and 91ppm Mo from 660m.
These results further confirm the continuity of shallow copper-molybdenum mineralization in the central part of the Cobrasco system. The mineralized footprint now measures approximately 1,200m by 550-700m, based on the initial 10 diamond drillholes totaling about 11,000m, and remains open in multiple directions.
Joseph van den Elsen, President and CEO, stated: "Andina Copper continues to systematically advance its wide spaced scout drilling programme, with hole CDH010 returning another high grade near surface intercept. Every hole completed from this platform has intersected long runs of shallow copper mineralization, underlining the exceptional continuity of the Cobrasco system." He added that with results from CDH011 imminent and drilling continuing from a new platform 350m to the northwest, they look forward to a steady flow of results and systematic expansion of the deposit.
The geology of CDH010 reveals a supergene-leached zone to about 36m, followed by chalcocite enrichment, and then significant hypogene chalcopyrite mineralization. High-grade intervals are associated with magmatic-hydrothermal breccias, including 60m @ 0.74% Cu from 186m and 20m @ 1.18% Cu from 216m. At depth, molybdenite-bearing quartz veins contribute to intervals like 84m @ 0.40% Cu and 91ppm Mo from 660m.
This news is important for the mining industry as it underscores the potential for a major new porphyry copper deposit in Colombia, a country with significant mining potential. The expansion of the mineralized footprint and the high grades near surface suggest the possibility of a large, low-cost operation. For investors and stakeholders, these results provide confidence in the project's viability and the company's exploration strategy.
