Energy Fuels' Terbium Oxide Qualifies for Use in Rare Earth Permanent Magnets, Bolstering Western Supply Chain

Energy Fuels Inc. (NYSE American: UUUU) (TSX: EFR), a leading U.S. producer of rare earth elements, uranium, and other critical materials, has announced that its terbium (Tb) oxide has successfully passed all qualifications for use by one of the world's largest manufacturers of rare earth permanent magnets outside China. The Japan-based manufacturer confirmed that the Tb oxide produced at Energy Fuels' White Mesa Mill in Utah meets its specifications and is approved for commercial rare earth permanent magnet production with no further qualification or validation required.

Terbium is a critical element that improves the heat resistance and performance of high-strength NdFeB permanent magnets, which are essential components in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and various high-tech applications. According to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, terbium currently commands a market price of approximately $5.5 million per tonne, underscoring its strategic value. This qualification marks a significant milestone for Energy Fuels, as it previously announced qualification of its neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) and dysprosium (Dy) oxides for rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing. With all three key magnet elements now qualified, Energy Fuels is positioned to supply a complete suite of critical materials to the magnet industry.

Upon closing of its pending acquisitions of Australian Strategic Materials (ASM) and Vacuumschmelze (VAC), Energy Fuels expects to become the leading vertically integrated 'mine-to-rare earth permanent magnet' producer in the U.S. and Europe. This integration would include the production of NdPr, Tb, and Dy oxides at the White Mesa Mill, serving as key components of its supply chain. The company's strategic moves align with global efforts to reduce reliance on Chinese rare earth supplies, which have been subject to export controls and geopolitical tensions.

The qualification of Tb oxide is particularly timely, as the demand for high-performance magnets is surging due to the rapid adoption of electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies. The White Mesa Mill is the only fully licensed conventional uranium mill operating in the U.S., and it also produces rare earth products and evaluates medical isotope recovery. Energy Fuels is also developing three heavy mineral sands/rare earths projects: the Vara Mada Project in Madagascar, Bahia Project in Brazil, and Donald Project in Australia (through a joint venture with Astron Limited). These projects are expected to further diversify the supply chain for critical materials.

This development is a positive indicator for the mining and materials sector, as it demonstrates progress in establishing non-Chinese sources of rare earth elements. For industry stakeholders, the approval of Energy Fuels' Tb oxide by a major Japanese manufacturer could lead to increased demand for U.S.-produced rare earths, potentially impacting pricing and supply dynamics. Moreover, the company's vertical integration strategy could enhance supply chain resilience for Western manufacturers, reducing their vulnerability to geopolitical disruptions. As the world transitions to cleaner energy and advanced technologies, the importance of a stable and diversified supply of critical minerals like terbium cannot be overstated.
