ANGKOR RESOURCES CORP. announced that Cambodia's Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) presented Block VIII, the onshore oil and gas concession held by the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, EnerCam Resources Co., Ltd., at the International Conference on Energy Security in Penang, Malaysia. The presentation took place on September 8th and 9th, with MME promoting Block VIII to an international audience as an example of developing a new oil and gas sector in Cambodia. This public endorsement by the Cambodian government underscores the strategic importance of Block VIII in the country's efforts to establish a domestic hydrocarbon industry.
EnerCam has completed 350 line-kilometers of 2D seismic and defined drill targets across four sub-basins: Bokor South, Bokor Central, Bokor North, and Kirirom. The company has also taken its Environmental Impact Assessment through inter-ministerial review. The 4+1 drill program contemplates one exploration well in each of the four sub-basins, followed by a fifth well located on the results of wells under a Production Sharing Contract (PSC). Block VIII covers approximately 4,095 km2 in the southwest quadrant of Cambodia under a 30-year PSC with the Royal Government of Cambodia. EnerCam continues to work with the MME on the drilling contractor tender, which is approved by the Ministry before publication.
As Cambodia imports 100% of its hydrocarbon-based energy products, discovering a national domestic supply of oil and gas remains a high priority. The presentation at the International Conference on Energy Security signals to international investors and industry participants that Cambodia is serious about advancing its upstream sector. For a country entirely dependent on imports, a successful discovery could reduce energy costs, improve energy security, and attract further foreign investment in exploration and production. The MME's promotion of Block VIII may also accelerate regulatory approvals and partnership discussions.
Angkor Resources Corp. is a public company listed on the TSX-Venture Exchange and is a leading resource explorer and developer in Cambodia working towards mineral and energy solutions across the country. The Company's mineral subsidiary, Angkor Gold Corp. Co., Ltd., currently holds two mineral exploration licenses in Cambodia with multiple prospects in copper and gold. Angkor's Cambodian energy subsidiary, EnerCam Resources Co., Ltd., was granted an onshore oil and gas license in the southwest quadrant of Cambodia called Block VIII. The license covers an area of approximately 4095 square kilometers. EnerCam is actively advancing oil and gas exploration activities onshore to meet its mission to prove Cambodia as a nation with its own oil and gas resources. The Company completed 2D-seismic in 2025 and has identified multiple drill targets with multiple target zones. The Company plans to follow with drilling Cambodia's first privately financed onshore exploratory oil and gas wells under a Production Sharing Contract.
For stakeholders in the mining and raw materials sector, this development highlights the growing importance of Southeast Asia's upstream energy potential. The involvement of Cambodia's Ministry of Mines and Energy in promoting Block VIII at an international forum may signal increased government support for oil and gas exploration, potentially leading to new opportunities for drilling contractors, service providers, and investors. However, risks remain, including seismic interpretation uncertainty, drilling risk, reservoir and fluid uncertainty, PSC compliance obligations, oil price exposure, and Cambodia-specific sovereign and regulatory risk. As EnerCam progresses toward drilling, the industry will watch closely to see if Cambodia can join the ranks of oil and gas producing nations.
