Oregen Energy Corp. (CSE: ORNG) (OTCQB: ORGEF) (FSE: A1S0) has appointed petroleum geoscientist and former Impact Oil & Gas Exploration Director Philip Birch as a strategic advisor, the company announced. Birch will assist Oregen as it evaluates a potential investment in Namibia’s offshore Block 2812Ab in the Orange Basin, a region that has emerged as a world-class petroleum province following multiple major discoveries.
Birch played a key role in identifying and advancing the Venus prospect prior to its successful drilling by TotalEnergies, one of the largest discoveries in sub-Saharan Africa. Oregen stated that Birch’s expertise will support exploration strategy, subsurface evaluation and technical positioning related to the block, which sits adjacent to the Venus discovery within the same proven petroleum fairway.
The appointment comes as Oregen, an investment company primarily focused on oil and gas assets in Africa, continues to expand its footprint in the Orange Basin. Its current flagship investment is a 33.95% net interest in Block 2712A offshore Namibia. The company is actively exploring other investment opportunities in the Orange and surrounding basins.
The Orange Basin has attracted significant attention from major oil companies following a string of discoveries. The Venus find by TotalEnergies and others has underscored the basin’s potential as a major hydrocarbon province. By bringing on Birch, Oregen aims to leverage his direct experience in the area to make informed decisions about Block 2812Ab.
