Greenland Mines Advances Sarfartoq and Skaergaard Projects, Boosting Critical Metals Portfolio

Greenland Mines (NASDAQ: GRML) has provided a shareholder update highlighting significant advancements in its critical minerals projects, following its March rebranding. The company confirmed the closing of its acquisition of the Sarfartoq Neodymium-Praseodymium (Nd-Pr) rare earths project in Greenland on September 1, and reported ongoing development at its Skaergaard palladium-gold-platinum project. These moves align with Greenland Mines' strategy to build a multi-asset platform focused on rare earth magnet materials, precious metals, and midstream processing opportunities.

The Sarfartoq project, located in southwest Greenland, is a key asset for the company's rare earth ambitions. An independent Initial Assessment revealed a high-case pre-tax net present value (NPV) of approximately $2.05 billion and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 118.6%, based on Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources. The updated resource estimate for Sarfartoq includes 6.9 million tonnes of Indicated resources at 1.60% Total Rare Earth Oxides (TREO) and 5.3 million tonnes of Inferred resources at 0.96% TREO. This resource base positions Sarfartoq as a significant potential supplier of neodymium and praseodymium, critical elements for permanent magnets used in electric vehicles and wind turbines.

In addition to the resource estimates, Greenland Mines highlighted that Neo Performance Materials holds a strategic equity stake in the company and has offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq production. This partnership provides a potential revenue stream and market access for the project's output.

At the Skaergaard project in southeast Greenland, Greenland Mines reported that its July 2026 Technical Report Summary, prepared under S-K 1300 guidelines, showed a 36% increase in Indicated palladium equivalent (PdEq) grade and a 31% increase in contained Indicated PdEq ounces compared to the 2022 estimate. The company is conducting a 2026 field program that includes drilling, bulk sampling, geotechnical work, and environmental baseline studies. Bulk material from the project will be sent to GTK Mintec in Finland for metallurgical and processing flowsheet testing, a crucial step in developing a viable extraction process.

Looking ahead, Greenland Mines outlined its remaining milestones for 2026: advancing Sarfartoq toward infill drilling and a Pre-Feasibility Study, progressing Skaergaard toward an Initial Assessment that evaluates a mining scenario, and developing its broader North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor strategy. This corridor aims to link Greenland's mineral resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure, potentially enhancing supply chain security for critical minerals in Western markets.

The progress at Sarfartoq and Skaergaard comes at a time when global demand for rare earth elements and platinum group metals is rising, driven by the transition to clean energy and advanced technologies. By advancing these projects, Greenland Mines is positioning itself to play a role in meeting this demand, which could have significant implications for the mining industry and for countries seeking to diversify their supply sources. For investors, the robust economic metrics and strategic partnerships at Sarfartoq, combined with the improved resource estimates at Skaergaard, suggest potential long-term value creation. However, the company's ability to execute on its development plans and navigate regulatory and environmental requirements will be critical to realizing these opportunities.
