Golden Cariboo Resources Ltd. has completed the acquisition of a 5.36-acre freehold property in Hixon, British Columbia, for a total purchase price of $300,000 CAD, the company announced on October 21, 2026. The property, comprising two adjacent lots on Highway 97, will serve as a camp to support continuous exploration and development activities at the company’s Quesnelle Gold Quartz Mine property, located approximately 4 kilometers northeast of Hixon. The acquisition, first announced in a May 19, 2026 news release, represents a key investment in the company’s operational readiness and long-term capacity.
The camp is expected to play a critical role in enabling Golden Cariboo to operate 12 months a year, a distinction that President and CEO J. Frank Callaghan highlighted as setting the company apart from many peers. “Being able to work 12 months a year sets Golden Cariboo apart from many peer group companies,” Callaghan said. “This acquisition will support those efforts and the Company’s focus on building upon and expanding its inaugural NI 43-101 Mineral Resource Estimate announced on September 30, 2026.” The company has already mobilized its Atco 5 unit skid-mounted trailers to the site to provide near-term accommodation and operational support infrastructure for field personnel and contractors.
Water studies, permitting, and engineered plans are currently in progress to assist with the installation of camp infrastructure. Aqua Tech Ltd from Kelowna and Western Water Associates Ltd out of nearby Prince George have been onsite to complete water testing and water quality analysis, which includes review by Northern Health. Results are pending. Either the existing water licence at the camp will be transferred to the company or a new licence may need to be applied for. Additionally, Golden Cariboo has engaged Prince George-based L&M Engineering Ltd. to complete engineering plans and permitting for either an upgraded or new septic system to support the camp. This work ensures the site will be fully functional and compliant with applicable regulations.
The Quesnelle Gold Quartz Mine property is bordered by Osisko Gold Group Inc. and is partly intertwined with them at the north end of the Cariboo Gold Project. It lies along a favourable corridor adjacent to the Spanish and Eureka thrust faults over a 96,183 hectare area. Historically, over 101 placer gold creeks on the 90-kilometer trend from the Cariboo Hudson mine north to the Quesnelle Gold Quartz Mine property have recorded production, with successful placer mining continuing to this day. The property includes the Quesnelle Quartz gold-silver deposit, discovered in 1865 and developed over a footprint of about 150m x 150m at the Main zone straddling Hixon Creek. The geological setting shows strong similarities with the Spanish Mountain gold deposit, situated 120 km southeast along the same geological trend, which is considered an epizonal orogenic gold deposit similar to world-class deposits such as Muruntau and Bendigo.
For readers focused on raw materials mining, the move underscores a broader trend of junior explorers investing in infrastructure to secure year-round operational capacity, potentially accelerating resource definition and development timelines in established gold districts. The ability to operate continuously could enhance exploration efficiency and support the expansion of mineral resources, which may ultimately contribute to future gold supply.
