Angkor Resources Launches Geophysical Survey at Gossan Hills Target in Cambodia

By Burstable Mining Team

TL;DR

Angkor Resources' IP survey could identify copper-rich deposits at Gossan Hills, potentially giving investors early advantage in a promising Cambodian mineral exploration project.

The 20 line-kilometer dipole-dipole IP survey measures chargeability to create 2-D subsurface images, detecting sulphide mineralization depth and geometry before drilling decisions.

Angkor's partnership with Cambodian students builds local technical capacity while exploring minerals that could support economic development and energy solutions in Cambodia.

Geologists are using electrical charge measurements to hunt for copper deposits hidden beneath ancient metamorphosed rocks in Cambodia's remote Ratanakiri Province.

Angkor Resources Launches Geophysical Survey at Gossan Hills Target in Cambodia

Angkor Resources Corp. has commenced a 20 line-kilometre induced polarization geophysical survey over the Gossan Hills target on its Andong Meas mineral exploration license in Ratanakiri Province, Cambodia. The survey, centered south of the company's Canada Wall porphyry copper target, is designed to detect sulphide mineralization at depth using a dipole-dipole configuration that measures chargeability responses from minerals like copper and zinc sulphides. The Gossan Hills consists of calcareous metasediments that have reacted with mineralizing fluids from the adjacent Canada Wall intrusive complex, forming a skarn system several hundred metres long.

According to Dennis Ouellette, VP Exploration, the skarn exhibits systematic geochemical zonation from iron oxide at the southern end to more copper-rich mineralization at the northern end, a classic indicator of a potentially economic system. The metasediments dip approximately 35 degrees eastward toward a deep magnetic anomaly identified in 2022, providing the primary rationale for the current IP survey. Independent scientific support for the geological interpretation comes from researchers at Kyushu University who concluded in a recent paper that mineral assemblages at Gossan Hills suggest a potential association with skarn-type or sulfide-related mineralization and that the area is a promising target for further exploration, particularly for porphyry–skarn-related or polymetallic sulfide deposits.

The survey data will be processed into 2-D cross-sectional images showing subsurface distribution, depth, and geometry of any sulphide-bearing zones before drilling decisions are made. The IP survey crew is led by a team from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia comprising one professor and three students from its geoscience program, with a fourth student participating in data interpretation for a fifth-year thesis. This collaboration contributes to developing Cambodia's national capacity in applied geophysics while Angkor Gold employees work alongside as surveyors and line cutters, with ten local community members assisting with field operations.

The mineral program partnership runs parallel to a recently announced collaboration between ITC and Angkor's energy subsidiary EnerCam, where students receive hands-on training in seismic interpretation for the Block VIII oil and gas exploration program. The survey is expected to take approximately eight to ten days, weather permitting, and represents a significant step toward advancing one of Angkor's most compelling mineral targets toward a drill decision. The company's approach combines technical exploration with local capacity building, reflecting a broader commitment to developing Cambodia's resource sector through both mineral and energy initiatives.
