Teck Resources Limited has renewed its sponsorship with BC Alpine Ski Association, extending a partnership that has supported alpine ski racing in British Columbia since 2008. The five-year agreement, spanning from the 2025-26 to 2030-31 seasons, will continue to bolster youth ski racing programs across the province. This sustained commitment provides critical stability for athletic development pipelines that have proven successful over more than fifteen years of collaboration.
The partnership centers on community engagement and youth development, with Teck sponsoring the Teck U14 and U16 race series for 11-to-16-year-old skiers. This program supports more than 50 ski race events annually between December and April, providing critical infrastructure for young athletes. The structured competition framework allows participants to progress through developmental stages with consistent support and resources.
Anders Hestdalen, CEO of BC Alpine, emphasized the significance of sustained programming, crediting the Teck partnership for helping develop athletes who have gone on to compete in World Championships and the Olympics. The partnership has been instrumental in maintaining strong grassroots skiing programs throughout British Columbia. This continuity enables long-term planning and resource allocation that would be challenging without corporate sponsorship at this scale.
Carleigh Whitman, Head of Social Performance & Indigenous Relations at Teck, highlighted the company's commitment to supporting community activities and youth engagement. Many Teck employees are actively involved as volunteers or have children participating in BC Alpine clubs across the province. This personal connection strengthens the partnership beyond financial support, creating genuine community integration and shared investment in athletic development outcomes.
The continued sponsorship will support BC Alpine's vision of inspiring lifelong skiers and developing world-class athletes by providing leadership, structure, and sustainable programming for ski clubs throughout British Columbia. This multi-year agreement ensures that young athletes can rely on consistent support as they progress through competitive levels, potentially following in the footsteps of previous participants who have reached elite international competitions. The partnership demonstrates how corporate-community collaborations can create lasting infrastructure for youth sports development across diverse regions.
